Turning Interest Into Action

Dealing with the challenges of today requires problem-solvers who bring different perspectives and are willing to do what they can to make a difference. the Student National Dental Association (SNDA) was founded in 1970 as the student branch of the National Dental Association (NDA). Young African American dental students from Meharry Medical College felt that their voices were unheard and relentlessly pursued the opportunity to organize a space where they could share their views as well as other minority students. Once established, SNDA performed outreach, academic enrichment, and the upliftment of their communities within and outside of the field of dentistry.

Mirroring these objectives, the UNC Adams School of Dentistry Chapter of SNDA emerged out of a pursuit to inspire and support the local underserved community, with a desire for actions to speak louder than words by promoting diversity in dentistry. Chartered in 2000, we’re an organization driven by the progressive ideas, actions, and service of our members to continue increasing minority involvement in oral healthcare.
